Where do new users drop off in onboarding?

Reading your Mixpanel data…

Most new users stall at “connect data”: only 41% get past it.

  • Those who get past it are three times as likely to pay.
  • Drop-off there is worst on phones.
  • It’s 8 points better since the new setup guide.

In plain words

How do I combine Mixpanel with revenue data?

Mixpanel is great at events and funnels. Questions like “what do our best customers do in week one?” need those events next to billing. Fivetran copies your Mixpanel events and user profiles into a database Orcabase hosts for you.

Then the agent can answer across both, in plain words, with a chart and the steps it took.

Ask in plain words

What you can ask about your Mixpanel data

The agent answers with the number, a chart and the steps it took. Keep the good answers on a dashboard.

  • Where do new users drop off in onboarding?

  • Which features do users who stay use in week one?

  • How many users were active each day this month?

  • What do our paying customers do differently?

  • How often do people use the new feature?

  • Which events happen before someone upgrades?

  • How does retention compare by signup month?

  • Show me weekly active users by plan.

About dashboards

Better together

Ask across Mixpanel and the rest of your business.

The best questions need more than one app. The agent can pull from several sources for one answer.

How to connect

Connect Mixpanel, step by step.

  1. 1

    Find it in Sync data

In Orcabase, go to Sync data → Add source and search for Mixpanel. Pick the database to sync into.

  2. 2

    Connect Mixpanel on Fivetran’s page

Fivetran’s page asks for your Mixpanel project ID and a service account’s username and secret, from the project’s settings.

  3. 3

    Choose what to sync

Back in Orcabase, tick the data you want. Only what you pick is synced, and only it counts toward your allowance.

  4. 4

    Ask away

The first sync starts straight away. When it’s done, ask the agent about your Mixpanel data.

What you’ll need

Questions

About Mixpanel and Orcabase

More in the docs: Sync apps with Fivetran

Does it bring in every event?
Yes: the events your product sends, with their properties, from the date you choose. So any question can go deeper than the saved reports in Mixpanel.
Will Orcabase’s numbers match Mixpanel’s reports?
Mixpanel makes its own choices, like how it counts a user or a session. In Orcabase you define active users and retention once, your way, and every chart shows how they’re worked out.
Do I need a Fivetran account?
No. Orcabase uses its own. You sign in to Mixpanel on Fivetran’s page, and the data lands in a database Orcabase hosts for you, so there’s nothing else to set up or pay Fivetran for.
How fresh is my Mixpanel data in Orcabase?
Fivetran syncs it every 6 hours as standard, and an admin can run a sync by hand at any time. The page for each source shows when it last synced and when it syncs next.
What does syncing cost?
Counts toward your monthly sync allowance: 500,000 changed rows a month, as standard. Each distinct row that’s added or changed in a month counts once, however often it changes, and the first full copy is free. You choose which tables sync, so you only spend the allowance on what you need.
