Which features do users who stay use in their first week?

Reading your Amplitude data…

Users who share a report in week one are twice as likely to be active in week eight.

  • Only 23% of new users share a report in their first week.
  • Setting up alerts helps too, but fewer people do it.
  • Exporting data makes no difference to who stays.

Still active in week 8, % by first-week action

How I got this· 4 steps
  1. Looked at your Amplitude events
  2. Found what each new user did in week one
  3. Checked who was still active in week eight
  4. Compared retention by first-week action

Example answer. Numbers are illustrative.

In plain words

How do I analyze Amplitude data together with revenue?

Amplitude knows what people do in your product; your billing tool knows who pays. Fivetran copies your Amplitude events into a database Orcabase hosts for you, where they can sit next to both.

Ask “which features do our paying customers use in week one?” and get the answer with a chart and the steps behind it.

Ask in plain words

What you can ask about your Amplitude data

The agent answers with the number, a chart and the steps it took. Keep the good answers on a dashboard.

  • Which features do users who stay use early?

  • How many users were active each week this quarter?

  • Where do people drop off before upgrading?

  • How does retention compare by signup week?

  • Which accounts use the product most?

  • How often is the new feature used?

  • What do people do in their first session?

  • Show me daily active users by platform.

Numbers worth defining

Define them once. Every answer agrees.

Tell Orcabase what each number means, certify it, and your dashboards, the agent and your whole team use the same one. The agent can draft these from your Amplitude data.

How metrics work

  • Weekly active users

Users who did something meaningful in the last 7 days.

  • Week-8 retention

Share of a signup week’s users still active eight weeks later.

  • Feature adoption

Share of active users who used a feature in the period.

  • Upgrade rate

Share of active free users who start paying in the month.

Dashboards to start with

About dashboards

Better together

Ask across Amplitude and the rest of your business.

The best questions need more than one app. The agent can pull from several sources for one answer.

How to connect

Connect Amplitude, step by step.

  1. 1

    Find it in Sync data

In Orcabase, go to Sync data → Add source and search for Amplitude. Pick the database to sync into.

  2. 2

    Connect Amplitude on Fivetran’s page

Fivetran’s page asks for your Amplitude project’s API key and secret key, from the project’s settings.

  3. 3

    Choose what to sync

Back in Orcabase, tick the data you want. Only what you pick is synced, and only it counts toward your allowance.

  4. 4

    Ask away

The first sync starts straight away. When it’s done, ask the agent about your Amplitude data.

What you’ll need

  • An Amplitude login with access to your project’s API key and secret key.
  • The Admin role in Orcabase, and data hosting: Fivetran writes into a database Orcabase hosts for you.

Questions

About Amplitude and Orcabase

More in the docs: Sync apps with Fivetran

Does it bring in raw events?
Yes: the events your product sends, with their properties, so any question can go deeper than the saved charts in Amplitude.
Will Orcabase’s numbers match Amplitude’s charts?
Amplitude makes its own choices about who counts as active. In Orcabase you define it once, and every chart shows how it’s worked out.
Do I need a Fivetran account?
No. Orcabase uses its own. You sign in to Amplitude on Fivetran’s page, and the data lands in a database Orcabase hosts for you, so there’s nothing else to set up or pay Fivetran for.
How fresh is my Amplitude data in Orcabase?
Fivetran syncs it every 6 hours as standard, and an admin can run a sync by hand at any time. The page for each source shows when it last synced and when it syncs next.
What does syncing cost?
Counts toward your monthly sync allowance: 500,000 changed rows a month, as standard. Each distinct row that’s added or changed in a month counts once, however often it changes, and the first full copy is free. You choose which tables sync, so you only spend the allowance on what you need.
