Firebase + Orcabase

Ask your Firestore data anything.

Firestore is great for running an app and hard to count across. Orcabase syncs your collections through Fivetran into a warehouse, so you can ask how many, how often and which ones, in plain words.

  • Synced by Fivetran
  • Syncs every 6 hours
  • No Fivetran account needed

How many users made a second booking within 30 days?

Reading your Firebase data…

38% of July’s new users booked again within 30 days.

  • That’s up from 31% in May.
  • Users who turned on reminders rebooked 1.7 times as often.
  • Weekend signups rebook least.

Rebooked within 30 days, % of new users

How I got this· 4 steps
  1. Looked at your users and bookings collections
  2. Found each user’s first booking
  3. Checked for another within 30 days
  4. Compared users with and without reminders

In plain words

How can I analyze my Firestore data?

Firestore answers one document at a time, fast. Questions like “how many users did X last month?” need every document at once. Fivetran copies the collections you pick into a database Orcabase hosts for you, laid out as tables.

Then you ask in plain words, and the agent works out the answer across all of it, with a chart.

Ask in plain words

What you can ask about your Firebase data

The agent answers with the number, a chart and the steps it took. Keep the good answers on a dashboard.

  • How many users signed up each week?

  • Which users haven’t opened the app in 30 days?

  • How many bookings did we get per day last month?

  • Which features are used by paying users?

  • What share of new users complete their profile?

  • Which cities have the most active users?

  • How many items does a typical user create?

  • Show me cancellations by reason this quarter.

What comes in

Your Firebase data, ready to ask about.

A copy in a database Orcabase hosts for you, with its own folder for each app.

01

The collections you pick

Users, orders, bookings: each collection becomes a table, with a column per field.
02

Subcollections

Nested collections can come along too, at any depth.
03

Deletes, if you want them

Turn on capturing deletes so removed documents don’t inflate your counts.
04

Only what you pick

Choose the collections to sync and leave the rest out, so your allowance goes where it counts.

Numbers worth defining

Define them once. Every answer agrees.

Tell Orcabase what each number means, certify it, and your dashboards, the agent and your whole team use the same one. The agent can draft these from your Firebase data.

How metrics work

  • New users

User documents created in the period.

  • Rebooking rate

Share of new users with a second booking within 30 days.

  • Monthly active users

Users with any activity in the last 30 days.

  • Completion rate

Share of new users who finish their profile.

Dashboards to start with

Your Firebase numbers at a glance.

Ask the agent to build one of these, or pin charts yourself. Share any dashboard with a link.

App growth

4 charts
  • New users by week
  • Monthly active users
  • Rebooking rate
  • Top cities

Engagement

3 charts
  • Bookings by day
  • Items per user
  • Cancellations by reason

About dashboards

Better together

Ask across Firebase and the rest of your business.

The best questions need more than one app. The agent can pull from several sources for one answer.

How to connect

Connect Firebase, step by step.

  1. 1

    Find it in Sync data

In Orcabase, go to Sync data → Add source and search for Firebase. Pick the database to sync into.

  2. 2

    Connect Firebase on Fivetran’s page

Fivetran’s page asks for a Firebase service account key, which you create in your Firebase project’s settings.

  3. 3

    Choose what to sync

Back in Orcabase, tick the data you want. Only what you pick is synced, and only it counts toward your allowance.

  4. 4

    Ask away

The first sync starts straight away. When it’s done, ask the agent about your Firebase data.

What you’ll need

  • A Firebase project using Cloud Firestore in Native mode.
  • Permission to create a service account and download its key.
  • The Admin role in Orcabase, and data hosting: Fivetran writes into a database Orcabase hosts for you.

Questions

About Firebase and Orcabase

More in the docs: Sync apps with Fivetran

Does this include Firebase Analytics or sign-in data?
It brings in Cloud Firestore collections. For Firebase Analytics, export it to BigQuery and connect BigQuery, which Orcabase reads live.
Does it work with Firestore in Datastore mode?
No. Fivetran supports Cloud Firestore in Native mode only.
Do I need a Fivetran account?
No. Orcabase uses its own. You sign in to Firebase on Fivetran’s page, and the data lands in a database Orcabase hosts for you, so there’s nothing else to set up or pay Fivetran for.
How fresh is my Firebase data in Orcabase?
Fivetran syncs it every 6 hours as standard, and an admin can run a sync by hand at any time. The page for each source shows when it last synced and when it syncs next.
What does syncing cost?
Counts toward your monthly sync allowance: 500,000 changed rows a month, as standard. Each distinct row that’s added or changed in a month counts once, however often it changes, and the first full copy is free. You choose which tables sync, so you only spend the allowance on what you need.
